What does it mean to say that XML is well-formed?
An XML document is said to be well-formed if it meets the requirements for well-formedness as defined by the W3C. Since this is a technical definition, it is possible to have a computer program check whether an XML document has this property.
The reason well-formedness is important is that it greatly eases automatic machine parsing of a document.
How can I check that my XML is well-formed?
There are many XML validators and formedness checkers that are available online, as
www.validome.org/xml/.
What is meant by a full set of listings?
Each feed file that iConnectAd fetches assumed to contain a set of only active listings which means that any listing not included in the feed is assumed to have expired, and is removed from our search index.
Example: on 12/01/09 a feed file contained the listing id:83274, title: "Passat 2001 excellent condition. low mileage".
on 12/08/09 the feed did not contain the above listing which means that listing 83274 would be removed from iConnectAd.
How often do you update my listings?
iConnectAd download the new feed file for processing with accordance to the schedule you specified when submitting your feed (daily/weekly/monthly).
Why not all of my listings appears on iConnectAd?
This could be happening for a variety of reasons. Among the most common are:
1. We do not have a valid location (ftp or url) for the listing feed file, and so cannot download it.
2. The listing was found to be a duplicate of a listing already exists.
What is image_thumb_url used for?
The picture provided via the image_thumb_url field of a listing is used on our search results and appears next to the short destails of the listing.
This picture must be specifically related to the listing and is generally expected to be an actual picture of the item being listed.
A resolution of 100x75 px is recommended. If a listing does not have a thumb image then this field can be left out of the particular listing
or can be left empty as with
<image_thumb_url></image_thumb_url>
What is image_url used for?
The picture provided via the image_url field of a listing is used on our search and appears next to the full details of the listing.
This picture must be specifically related to the listing, and is generally expected to be an actual picture of the item being listed.
A resolution of 640x480 px is recommended. If a listing does not have an image then this field can be left out of the particular listing
or can be left empty as with
<image_url></image_url>
What if an item listed is free?
If the price of an item is specifically 0, then a 0 value should be placed in the price field, such as:
<price>0</price>
What if the price of an item listed is unknown?
If a listing has a price associated with it, but its specific price is unknown, then this field can be left out of the particular listing or
can be left empty as with
<price></price>
